“Chernobyl Live” by Hildur Guðnadóttir with Chris Watson & Sam Slater

Multi-award-winning Icelandic composer Hildur Guðnadóttir has received wide recognition – including an Emmy and a Grammy – for her haunting score for HBO’s hit TV series Chernobyl.

Joined by Sam Slater and field recordist Chris Watson, and with an innovative lighting concept by Theresa Baumgartner and spatialisation by Francesco Donadello, Guðnadóttir here creates a captivating live rendition of her brilliant soundtrack, offering a unique experience of an immersive multi-channel work for industrial spaces.

Filmed in a former printworks, this concert performance was presented in accordance with COVID-19 safety guidelines and proved to be a successful experiment in how live music can be presented in the reality of 2020.

The film is produced by the Barbican, Unsound Productions and BFF-Best Films Forever Collective. It is directed by Zoe Kahlert.

The performance took place as a part of Ephemera Warsaw Arts Festival presented by Fundacja Tone co-financed by the City of Warsaw.

Chernobyl Live was commissioned by Unsound, Dark Mofo, the Barbican and Rewire.
