Bach: Christmas Oratorio Cantata 4-6, Sir J.E. Gardiner (2/2)

A masterpiece of the Baroque choral repertoire, Bach’s Christmas Oratorio brings familiar Gospel texts to life in music of drama, reflection and pictorial scoring. In this second part of Sir John Eliot Gardiner’s performance from the Herderkirche in Weimar, soloists Claron McFadden, Bernarda Fink, Christoph Genz and Dietrich Henschel, together with the Monteverdi Choir and English Baroque Soloists, complete the composer’s telling of the Christmas story, from the Circumcision and Naming of Jesus to the journey undertaken by the Wise Men to Bethlehem and their adoration of the newborn Christ Child.
