In October 2021, the audience in Berlin were treated to a night of movie magic led by the Hollywood legend himself. At the age of 89, Williams made his conducting debut with the internationally renowned Berliner Philharmoniker at their home in the German capital. The concert presents a wide-ranging selection of music from some of his most beloved film scores, tracing the American conductor’s remarkable imprint on film music history. From the futuristic sounds of Close Encounters to the instantly evocative opening notes of “Hedwig’s Theme” from the Harry Potter movies, the audience is also carried away into the wondrous worlds of Far and Away, Jurassic Park, Superman, and the Indiana Jones and Star Wars series. With a moving rendition of Williams’ Elegy performed by principal cellist Bruno Delepelaire included in the programme, the mutual respect and understanding between conductor and orchestra makes for a truly captivating and unforgettable spectacle.
