Celebrate Easter Day with the uplifting music-making of the Sistine Chapel Choir, directed by Massimo Palombella. They perform an all-Palestrina programme, starting with the original version of the well-known Missa Papae Marcelli, a six-part Mass dedicated to Pope Marcellus II. Monsignor Palombella transcribed its score into modern notation and worked with the choir to recreate Renaissance performance practice as closely as possible. They follow the Mass with a selection of motets, including Tu es Pastor ovium – a work in praise of St Peter – and a series of pieces on the subject of mercy, before ending with a four-part Ave Maria setting.
